If your child knocks out a permanent tooth:
1. If the tooth is still in the mouth, reposition as well as possible and get to a dentist immediately.
2. If the tooth has been been out of the mouth:
-pick up the tooth by the crown (not the root), and rinse under tapwater. DO NOT SCRUB the root!
-if possible, reinsert the tooth into the socket.
-if you cannot reinsert, keep the tooth temporarily in milk or inside the cheek if you are confident your child will not swallow it!
-get to your dentist immediately—the first 30-60 minutes is critical for tooth survival!
